WHY DO WE PUT UP NO DRINKING SIGNS IN FORD PARK AND FIND LOADS OF CANS AND SMASHED BOTTLES EACH MONTH.

THE REASON IS THE POLICE ARE INEFECTIVE, IN DEALING WITH THIS SORT OF CRIME
I've
been sitting on this Council now for over two years and I can't believe
the inertia that is brought about by procedure and what they call
standing orders. That's a set of archane rules that govern how the
council is conducted. If you don't know how it all works then your made
to feel small by the old guard who seem to block any innovative idea
that may pop up from time to time. It somehow stifles the creative urge
to jump up and down, as the weight of this proceedure bulldozes you
into falling into line with how things have to be debated, it makes
passion go out of the window and throttles any sensible debate.

The
main debates are about holes in the road, about overhanging hedges, and
about not allowing druggies to have places to get there lives back
together. We talk endlessly about not changeing the character of the
town by allowing development, whilst wanting to attract visitors to
spend their cash with the traders. We hardly ever talk about young
people who live in the town as well, and if we do we seem to always end
up with a negative. We oppose things that come to pass and we recommend
things that never happen. We have no overall plan for where we're going
and have no imagination or real power.
